Thousands of fans of the Disney Channel’s High School Musical series have lost their chance to watch basketball star Troy Bolton and math-whiz Gabriella Montez sing and dance live in the city after the producers of the High School Musical: The Ice Tour cancelled all shows scheduled for Jakarta in the wake of last week’s bomb attack.
Sentra Enterprises, the local promoter of the shows, has confirmed the cancellation.
“Due to the recent unrest in Jakarta, all performances from 24 July to 31 July of Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour, have been cancelled,” Feld Entertainment, the show’s producer, said in a statement forwarded by the promoter to The Jakarta Post.
“Feld Entertainment, the producers of High School Musical: The Ice Tour, deeply regrets the inconvenience, however we are primarily concerned with the safety and well-being of our guests, performers and staff.”
This is the second international event to be cancelled because of the terrorist attack on two South Jakarta hotels last Friday. English Premier League champions Manchester United canceled their trip to Jakarta shortly after the blasts, which killed nine people and injured more than 50 others.
Following the cancellation, Sentra Enterprise director Rino Chantana ensured that all ticket holders could get a refund by contacting 5220878. (hwa)
