Couples get certificates on first childbirth

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta administration is handing out certificates that contain advice about birth control, in a bid to encourage fertile couples in the municipality to take part in the family planning program.

"These certificates have messages related to the family planning program," Mayor Sylviana Murni said Tuesday as quoted by poskota.com, during the official opening of a family planning clinic at Gatot Soebroto Hospital.

These include advice on spacing pregnancies, immunizing children against a wide range of diseases, and choosing the right contraception methods.

"This is part of our effort to maintain the number of births and try to slow the population boom," Sylviana said. - JP
