Governor launches Betawi dictionary

JAKARTA: Governor Fauzi Bowo launched a dictionary of Betawi (native Jakarta) words, idioms and proverbs, at City Hall on Thursday.

Compiled by Abdul Chaer, the dictionary boasts more than 10,000 entries.

Fauzi said it would serve as a guide for anyone wishing to learn and preserve the Betawi language.

"I hope there will be more people willing to preserve our culture," he said as quoted by state news agency Antara. -JP
