The government has asked all hospitals across the country to prepare for an expected increase in the number of influenza cases, after a girl infected with the H1N1 virus became the country’s first patient to succumb to the flu.
As of July 26, the numbers of people who have tested positive for the H1N1 virus reached 326 across 14 provinces including Jakarta, Bali, West Java, East Java, South Sulawesi and North Sumatra.
“We have sent letters to all the hospitals to anticipate the rising numbers of people with the H1N1 virus,” Director general of disease control and environmental health at the heath ministry, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
He said that on Sunday, 19 people had tested positive for the H1N1 virus, mostly local people who had just returned from several countries like Australia, the Netherlands, Japan and Singapore.
“Two of the H1N1 suspects are foreigners visiting Bali,” he said.
A six-year-old Indonesian girl who tested positive for the H1N1 virus died last week.
