Green action can take place anywhere including at the Blitzmegaplex cinema chain
reen action can take place anywhere including at the Blitzmegaplex cinema chain. The entertainment company is planning to donate proceeds from the sale of environment-themed T-shirts to Greenpeace.
Through its merchandise outlet blitzshoppe, Blitzmegaplex is selling environment-designed T-shirt called "Go Green". The T-shirt initiative is a joint project between Blitzmegaplex and LaSalle College International Jakarta.
Students of the computer graphics and multimedia department at LaSalle College International Jakarta provided the "environmental" designs while Blitzmegaplex produced the T-shirts.
Blitzmegaplex picked five designs created by LaSalle College International Jakarta students for the project, which will be printed on T-shirts and distributed through blitzshoppes outlets in Jakarta and in Bandung, West Java.
Saskia Anindita won the top three prizes with her designs, followed by Kelly Kwan and Ellen Hermawati Soedirman for the fourth and fifth prizes. All are students of La Salle majoring in computer graphics, marketing, communication and advertising.
The top design, depicting a flower made of bulbs, received the first prize, while the second prize called "Green Hearted", depicted a green heart on the left side of the shirt, where the real heart would be located. The third, "Think Green", bears a tree-like human brain inside a girl's head.
Saskia said that to find design ideas, she did a search on the Internet and talked about it with her friends.
"It took me one or two weeks to work on the design concept," she said.
Kelly's design, "Earth Face", shows a puzzle-shaped globe that is missing one piece. As a result, the supposedly smiling globe looks sad. Ellen's design, "Koala", portrays a koala hanging on the T-shirt with no other trees to cling on.
Tedi Subagja, blitmegaplex's merchandiser, said his company did not set any requirements for the design criteria as it wanted the students to explore all design possibilities.
"We asked them not to use glitter but natural colors instead. We only produced 100 T-shirts for each design. Before this contest with La Salle, we had also held a design competition among our employees, and had three winners. Therefore, there will be a total of 800 *Go Green' themed T-shirts," he said.
He hoped that Blitzmegaplex's customers would be moved to conserve the environment with the messages on the T-shirts.
"We will donate Rp 10,000 *US$1* for each *Go Green' T-shirt sold to Greenpeace," he said.
