ADPARA>TANGERANG: Research from the Tangerang Health Agency confirmed the drinking water from 20 refill depots was contaminated by E.coli bacteria.

The agency's head of the health service division, Shirley, said Saturday the agency took 100 samples of water from 100 depots in Tangerang and found 20 of them positively contaminated, making the water harmful for consumption.

"The contaminated water is harmful for consumption. It is not natural drinking water as claimed by the depot owners," Shirley said, as quoted by Antara.

"We found many depots did not use water from natural sources in mountains but from the Cisa-dane River, and the water was not sterilized."

She said drinking water should fulfill the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and standards used by drinking water producers. - JP
