Megawati team wants second round of elections

The Megawati Soekarnoputri campaign team says that the General Elections Commission (KPU) must hold a second round of presidential elections pitting Megawati against incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of the Democratic Party, citing severe mismanagement during the July 8 election.

"The second alternative is re-election, while the last one is re-voting in 28 severely mismanaged provinces," the team's advocacy head, Gayus Lumbuun, said during a press conference at the Constitutional Court in Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Prior to the conference, the team had officially submitted its documented evidence on possible election violations to the court.

Gayus' fellow team member, Artelia Dahlan, said that he believed the violations were not accidental.

"Judging from the massive scale of the violations, I can personally say that there was a grand design behind all the havoc. Around 28 million votes were missing," he said. (hdt)
