Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kojiro Shiojiri handed Monday an honorary award to Brig. Gen. (ret) Sri Kusmarianty Jasril for her seven-year contribution to bridging cooperation between Indonesian and Japanese police forces.

"I feel honored by this award. I hope this award will trigger the Indonesian Police to forge better relationships and cooperation with Japan and other countries," she told reporters after the ceremony at the Bekasi Police headquarters.

Sri had spent 15 years of her last tenure at the National Police's international cooperation division. After retiring, she has continued to contribute to international police affairs.

She has been the key person behind the police technical advisory project conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

"I also help the national police in building education cooperation with other countries like England, Germany and Australia," she added.

With Sri's assistance, the JICA have been conducting community policing in Indonesia since 2002 with the Bekasi Police, as a pilot project.

"The project aims to build civilian awareness about crime in their neighborhoods. This can greatly help the police eradicate crimes," said Bekasi Police chief Sr. Comr. Mas Guntur Laupe. (bbs)
