Slow bridge repair causes heavy congestion in Bogor

BOGOR: The slow pace of the West Java administration's progress in fixing the Cisempur bridge, which links Sukabumi and Bogor, has led to chronic, 14-kilometer-long traffic jams.
After visibly crumbling for several days, the 20-year-old bridge completely collapsed a week ago. Before the incident, the bridge was frequently used by heavy trucks.
Small vehicles are still able to use the bridge, but most drivers are opting to detour to the nearby Lido route, vivanews.com reported Sunday.
The 50 working to repair the bridge have so far managed to complete just 15 percent of the project. The authorities, along with the local Detachment of Army Engineers (Zeni), have meanwhile constructed a 1-kilometer-long temporary emergency bridge. - JP
