Sibolga District Court sentenced head of the Unte Mungkur 2 village, Beni Batubara, Monday to one-and-a-half years in jail for voting for president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono 51 times in the recent presidential election.
Head of North Sumatra’s Elections Supervisory Body, Ikhwaluddin Simatupang, told tempointeraktif.com that the court had declared Unte guilty of violating election law.
“With the verdict, it is proven that a violation occurred in Central Tapanuli during the July 8 election,” Ikhwaluddin said.
Beni was apprehended by local residents trying to put the ballot papers into a ballot box at polling station 2 of the village.
“Beni did this on his own initiatives,” Head of the Kolang Elections Supervisory Body, Parlaungan Silalahi, said. (ewd)
