Your comments on the plans of several companies to explore gold mining near Komodo National Park amid Indonesia's effort to list the park in the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Your comments:
Stop mining activities near Komodo Island. It's not only an inheritance for Indonesian people, but also for all people around the world. I wish that government would make a clear regulation about mining activity. Take care about of Komodo Island as Indonesians are rightfully proud of it.

Why on earth are people getting so greedy these days? Why do people these days just think about profit instead of the consequences that may occur later to our environment?

The global warming issue unfortunately has not made our people see the truth; that we seriously need to divert our focus to it. Gold mining as we can rationally think about it will surely cause serious environmental damage to the ecosystem.

For god's sake, don't you think that our nature has had enough already? The fact that it is going to be done near Komodo National Park really bothers me a lot. There is no way that gold mining will not bring danger to these great species. Just choose one, having the pride of having one of the Seven Wonders of the World or participating greatly in destroying our earth!

Mining of any sort near humans and animal habitats will end up being a disaster. Please don't let this go forward, selling out now for a few dollars will only end up with costly cleanup expenses in the future. The mining company will grab what they can and then leave or go out of business.

It is not only the proposed gold mine near Labuan bajo that will kill the Komodo National Park and ruin tourism, but also the proposed second fish factory proposed for there. Already there is a large fish factory that is ruining the livelihood of the local fishermen, as the area is being over fished.

Reef bombing is still happening, and I heard it myself last week near the Japanese wreck at Wodong, 25 kilometers from Maumere. It seems the police are not able to stop it, and each year there is more damage to the reef, and therefore, less fish.

Please, please, stop the mining near the sea, and save Flores, not only for tourism and the beautiful environment, but also for the livelihood of the local Flores people who depend on the sea.

Once the dragons are gone, it will just be another island. Protect the amazing species of Indonesia by making it a nature preserve off-limits to mining and habitation by humans.
