DENPASAR: Insp. Gen. Sutisna was sworn in last week as the new head of the Bali Police, replacing Insp. Gen. Teuku Husein.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the National Police headquarters in Jakarta.

On Monday, dignitaries from across the island, including Deputy Governor A.A. Puspayoga and chief of the Udayana Military Command, Maj. Gen. Hotmangaradja Pandjaitan, attended a ceremony to bid the outgoing police chief farewell and to welcome in the new chief.

The ceremony was held at the Bali Police headquarters in Denpasar.

In his speech, Sutisna vowed to do his best to protect the resort island from any terrorist attacks.

"The probability is still high that this island is being targeted by terrorist groups," he said.

"The island's security is very important. Any failure to secure the island will not only affect Bali but also Indonesia."

The outgoing Teuku Husen called on all police officers to fully commit themselves to efforts to secure the island.

"This island is the icon of the country's tourism," he stressed. -JP
