NUSA DUA: Four hotels in Bali - the St. Regis, the Westin, the Laguna and Le Meridien (Starwood group) - have launched a joint campaign for helmets for children.
The campaign is to raise public awareness for children to wear helmets when riding on motorcycles with their parents.
Six hundred helmets were handed out to 40 children of the four hotels' staff as well as to other children in the Nusa Dua area.
The campaign was sparked by concerns that children traveling around with their parents on motorbikes often did not wear helmets, thus endangering their safety.
"Children are the future of the world, so ensuring their safety is paramount," said campaign initiator Peter Frawley, regional vice president of Southeast Asia for Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The next phase of the campaign aims to raise money for the purchase of helmets through public contributions, mainly through the hotels' guests. - JP
