RI economy grows at slower pace

A- A A+

Indonesia's economy grew albeit at a slower pace in the second quarter this year as exports slid, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced Monday.

The economy grew by 4 percent from the same period a year earlier, supported by an increase in private consumption, government spending and investment, BPS head Rusman Heriawan said in a press conference.

The second quarter growth was slower than the 4.4 percent growth rate in the first quarter this year, bringing the growth rate of the first half to 4.2 percent.

The government expects the economy will expand by 4.3 percent this year, a positive figure amid negative growth rates in developed countries.
