Home Minister Mardiyanto requested all governors, regents and mayors Tuesday to extend their hospitality to a deaf couple who is on a bicycle trip across the country, Antara news agency reported.

“All regional heads are ought to receive them if they travel to their territories,” Mardiyanto said when granting audience to the couple, Yunara and Rahma Anggareni Chibro, at his office. Hundreds of the ministry’s employees attended the meeting.

Mardiyanto handed the cyclists a letter of his official support and asked them to show it to all regional heads they were due to meet. He said that he advocated their trip because it exhibited their heartfelt nationalism.

The minister appeared concerned about the couple’s accounts of abuse by motorists on their way from Bandung to Jakarta.

The couple will end their trip on Oct. 28, which coincides with Youth Oath Day.

Mardiyanto requested the couple to keep him updated on their progress through text messages and to inform him each time they arrived in a new town.
