Gunmen fired shots at a bus carrying several employees of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) early Wednesday morning, while the bus was traveling along a road leading to the Grasberg mine in Tembagapura, Timika, Papua. Thus far, there have been no reports on injuries or casualties.
The bus, driven by Jemi Muntu, was going from the 28 mile point along the road to a security post 22 miles away. The attack occurred 5 miles short of the destination, tempointeraktif.com has reported.
A statement from Freeport Indonesia said that the bus was empty.
The company also said that shots were fired at the bus around 7 a.m. local time near 46 mile point, outside the PTFI operations area.
The company have temporarily closed the road from 34 mile point to 66 mile point.
