Police question suspended KPK chief over testimony

The National Police questioned Thursday suspended chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Antasari Azhar, in relation to his testimony that KPK officials received bribes from a suspect they were investigating.

Antasari's lawyer, Ari Yusuf Amir, said that three investigators had asked for clarification from his client at the City Police Detention Center, where Antasari is detained for his alleged role in a murder case.

“Antasari was not accompanied by any of his lawyers during the session. We have yet to learn what kind of questions the police asked,” Ari said, as quoted by kompas.com.

The KPK has reported Antasari for defamation because of his statement that the officials accepted bribes from Anggoro Widjojo to halt their investigation into his involvement in a Rp 180 billion (US$ 18 million) graft case.

Anggoro, the director of PT Masaro Radiokom, fled Indonesia and is reportedly in Singapore. (ewd)
