The House of Representatives has promised to complete a draft law in the anti-corruption court (Tipikor) in September in a new move to eradicate corruption.
House Speaker Agung Laksono said that the move was aimed at complying with a Constitutional Court decision requiring the completion of the law before December.
"The House does not wish to see the President issuing government regulations in lieu of laws (Perpu) in the event that the House is unable to complete it," Agung said in the opening of the first session of 2009-2010 Friday.
The Constitutional Court issued a ruling in December 2006 requiring the completion of the Tipikor law before December 2009, also known as Law No. 30/2002 on the KPK. As the Corruption Court is based on this, it could be deemed unconstitutional as per its rules.
Agung urged the factions and the House special committee to prioritize the completion of draft law.
