KPU completes legislative seats distribution

The General Elections Commission (KPU) completed on Friday distribution of the remaining House of Representatives seats for Aceh and West Java.

KPU member Andi Nurpati said the commission would work until late at night to allocate seats in Central Java, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara and Kalimantan electoral districts that had remained unaccounted for after two rounds of distribution mechanisms.

“We finish the seats allocation tonight,” Andi said during a break at a KPU plenary meeting.

The KPU conducted the third round of legislative seats distribution based on its own regulations, which allocates the seats to political parties with the most left-over votes. The seats then go to candidates of the qualifying parties who won the most votes.

The KPU is also waiting for the results of revote in South Nias in North Sumatra, Batam in Riau Islands and Tulang Bawang in Lampung. The Constitutional Court ordered the election rerun after finding procedural irregularities and vote rigging.

The new House members will take office on Oct. 1.
