A magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit Gorontalo province, Sulawesi, at dawn Friday. There were no reports of damages or injuries.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported that the quake hit the province, which is located on the northern part of Sulawesi island, at 4:47 a.m.
The earthquake's epicenter was located 130 kilometers southwest of Gorontalo at 10 kilometers beneath the surface.
Indonesia straddles a chain of fault lines and volcanoes known as the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and is thus prone to seismic activity. (dre)
