any tourists from around the globe come to visit the water off Manado in North Sulawesi. Not only does the area boast a comfortable tropical climate, stunning beaches and welcoming residents, its Sail Bunaken marine festival, which took place from Aug. 12 to 20 in Manado, North Sulawesi, has also been a magnet for travelers.
Apart from the yacht race, fishing and massive scuba diving event that involved more than 2,400 divers, warships from around the world were also present at the festival.
Sail Bunaken 2009 was jointly organized by a national committee with the help of the local administration, the Indonesian Navy and some other state institutions.
Not only did the event promote Indonesian maritime tourism, costing more than Rp 30 billion (US$3 million), it was also used to discuss military cooperation.
Representatives from 29 countries and 26 warships took part in the maritime event.
