Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said his office has sent an official letter of protest to the Malaysian government over their use of the Pendet dance in advertisements for their tourism campaign.
In the letter, Jero added, his office asks for clarification from the neighboring government on similar cases over the past two years.
Malaysia previously included the traditional “Rasa Sayange” song in its tourist campaign.
“Indonesia must be firm in handling this case,” Jero said, as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the production house responsible for the ad should be held responsible and has admitted its wrongdoing.
“I don’t want to respond to the apology from the production house since they expressed it via email. We are still waiting for an official apology from the Malaysian government,” he said. (ewd)
