Some 500 ondel-ondel aim to break record

Around 500 ondel-ondel (Betawi traditional giant effigies) will join a record breaking parade, held for the opening of Kolese Kanisius' 2009 Education Fair, in Central Jakarta on Saturday morning.

“The Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) is monitoring the event,” said Henrikus Suparjono, chairman of the event committee, adding that the parade would recorded as one with most ondel-ondel number.

The parade will go through Jl. Menteng Raya, the National Monumen (Monas), and Bundaran HI traffic circle.

At the time of writing, traffic on the route is still normal.

At least 70 universities, both Indonesian and from overseas, will open booths during the annual education expo, providing information to students interested in learning more about their institutions.
