The Finance Ministry has waived the import duty on capital goods used for the construction and development of power plants, through a ministerial regulation effective as of Aug. 18 this year.
The waiver is aimed at "ensuring the development of power plants and sufficiency of electricity from business units, including state-run power firm PT PLN", Harry Z. Soeratin, the ministry's spokesman, said Monday in a statement.
The exemption has been granted to PLN and businesses holding licenses for public electricity (IUKU), under permits issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
To qualify for the import duty exemption, businesses need to file a request with the customs office. The imported goods should arrive within 24 months after the request is granted, said Harry.
