Pindad to punish distributor if proven guilty of violating contract

State arms manufacturer PT Pindad will sanction an arms distributor that shipped its weapons to the Philippines should it prove to have violated its contract with the firm.

“We will halt all future selling to the distributor,” Pindad’s president director, Adik Avianto Sudarsono, told a press conference held in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The same penalty would be applied for countries that violate agreements with the company, he added.

The statement came on the heels of the seizing of Pindad-made riffles aboard a Panamanian- flagged vessel by the Philippine authorities on Aug. 20.

The customs officers confiscated 100 SS1-V1 assault riffles intended for the Malian government after the vessel crew failed to notice before docking off the Mariveles port in Bataan, the Philippines. (adh)
