SURABAYA: East Java Governor Soekarwo has called on all businesspeople in the province to pay the Idul Fitri allowance seven days prior to the celebration at the latest.
The amount given should be in accordance with the employees' length of service, he said.
The request was made through a circular dated Aug. 12, sent to all regents and mayors across the province.
Through the circular, the governor asked all the regents and mayors to supervise and keep a close watch on the allowance distribution in their respective regions.
"Doing so will prevent the occurrence of unwanted protests during this holy month," Soekarwo said Monday.
He added that every worker who had been in service for three months and over deserved an Idul Fitri allowance.
"An allowance for the workers is an obligation for the employers," Soekarwo said. - JP
