The 7.3 magnitude earthquake that rattled Cianjur, West Java on Wednesday caused leaks on the main pipe that takes dirty water to a treatment plant in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, disturbing water distribution in Central Jakarta, North Jakarta and half of West Jakarta.

PT PAM Lyonaisse Jaya (Palyja), a tap water operator that manages the plant, announced that the water distribution in Central Jakarta and West Jakarta would go back to normal in the afternoon, while in North Jakarta by the evening at the latest.

Areas near Pejompongan including Bendungan Hilir and Senayan would recover faster, Palyja spokeswoman Meyritha Maryanie said.

“Although the repair finished at 10 p.m. yesterday, it doesn't mean that everything is settled. We still need time to gradually increase the rpm (revolution per minute),” she told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

She said the leak of the main pipe occurred in Kampung Melayu.
