AKARTA: In an attempt to improve people's participation in combating corruption the antigraft body launched its online report system on Wednesday.
"The KPK Online Monitoring System provides a service that enables people to file a corruption allegation report without having to submit their name, so their identity is safe," KPK deputy chairman for prevention M. Jasin said.
He added this was one of the efforts to protect whistle-blowers.
He said the report could be submitted to www.kpk.go.id where informants could find a link that did not require them to identify themselves, but where they could still communicate with the commission's officials if they needed additional information, as well as monitor the development of the case they had reported.
Asked about the possibility of an informant making a false allegation, Jasin said the system had a mechanism to reduce such a thing.
"We will not process a report if the informant does not submit a password and *phone* number we can contact," he said.
Jasin acknowledged the development of the system was fully financed by a German-based institution Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GTZ). The institution, Jasin said, would also finance the operation of the site for two years.
