To help ease the suffering of the recent earthquake victims, the West Java branch of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) announced Friday it had prepared 100 tons of rice for every regency or municipality in the province which were affected by the quake.

'We have allocated it [the rice] from our reserve stores,' Sobar Husein, public relations head of West Java Bulog told The Jakarta Post Friday.

Sobar said Bandung regency had so far submitted a preliminary request to withdraw 50 tons of rice from the agency.

In Pangalengan, the most affected district in the regency, it is estimated that several Red Cross emergency public kitchens have to cook a total of at least 4.3 tons of rice per day for the thousands of people who are currently living in makeshift tents after Wednesday's earthquake. (hdt)
