Police in Cilegon, Banten, said Sunday they would deploy 279 officers to guard Merak Port prior to the Idul Fitri holidays.
Cilegon Police deputy chief Comr. Muji Supriyadi said the first deployment would begin on Monday.
"On Sept. 14, we’ll have a full team in place," he said, adding the officers would work in two shifts.
Another 224 officers will be deployed to nine spots prone to traffic jams and accidents, Sipriyadi added.
Millions of people will make the exodus back to their hometowns from major cities like Jakarta and Bandung, to celebrate Idul Fitri, which will fall on Sept. 21 and 22, with their families.
