DENPASAR: Bali deputy governor A.A. Puspayoga and Denpasar Mayor I.B. Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra joined hundreds of students and city residents in a fun bike event on Sunday to campaign for the car-free day (CFD) initiative.
Accompanied by their wives, both Puspayoga and Rai Dharmawijaya pedaled their bicycles along the streets that have been designated as the CFD streets.
Launched in mid-August, CFD takes place from 06.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. every Sunday.
During that period no car is allowed to pass along the Puputan, Cut Nyak Dien, Basuki Rahmat and Juanda streets.
Those streets are located in the provincial government's administrative center in Renon.
"I know there are still many people who do not know about the CFD and there are also people who reject the initiative," Puspayoga said.
"But, eventually the initiative will gain ground," he added. -JP
