Police to probe radical groups’ websites

The National Police cyber crime unit is investigating three websites for their alleged link to terrorist groups.

“We are now investigating the origin of these websites, including where these sites have been made and the identity of the people behind them,” said police spokesman Insp. Gen. Nanan Soekarna on Tuesday.

When asked if the websites were based overseas, Nanan said the police had anticipated the possibility.

“There is nothing to worry about. If we find out later that the websites actually come from abroad, we will just work with the police there,” he said.

The three websites rumahjihad.blogspot.com, suarajihad.wordpress.com and sebuahkemuliaan.wordpress.com promote radical Islamic thoughts. Materials like the last message from Imam Samudra, one of the trio of Bali bombers who were executed last year, are available here.

Criticism against the police’s decision to crackdown on terrorism can be found in the websites.

Previously, the police had noticed that at least two websites related to the terrorist group led by Noordin M Top had been created. The first one was public acknowledgment that had been directly signed by the terrorist leader himself.
