Ex PGN manager gets four years for graft

The former general manager of state-owned gas provider PT PGN, Trijono, was sentenced Wednesday to four years in jail for receiving Rp 963 million (US$96,300) in gratuities from the company's partners between 2003 and 2006.

"The defendant is guilty of violating the 2001 corruption law and therefore should serve four years in prison," presiding judge Sutiyono said when reading out the verdict at the Corruption Court.

Trijono was also ordered to pay Rp 200 million in fines and Rp 234 million in compensation to the state.

He faces an additional four months in jail should he fail to pay the fine, and 12 months for failure to pay the compensation.

Trijono was shown to have received Rp 80 million from Surya Pria Sembada, the director of CV Duta Buana; Rp 465 million from Herdadi, the sales manager of PT Bakrie Pipes Indonesia; Rp 100 million from Yanto Soedjatmiko , the director of PT Centram; Rp 85 million from Layasi Salvatore Karo Karo, director of PT Kastilmas Persada; Rp 394 million from Sonny Runtukahu, the director of PT Penta Pratama; and Rp 182 million and Rp 55 million from Muh. Adha Muliantoro, the operational director of CV Bali Graha Surya and director of PT Hokki Kita Timur Raya.

The companies were the appointed developers for PGN’s gas installation development in East Java.
