The South Sumatra administration said Wednesday it would allocate Rp 3 billion next year to build power lines that will provide 2,000 cheap houses with electricity.

South Sumatra mining and energy agency head, Akhmad Bakhtiar Amin said his agency would only provide electricity lines on the road near the cheap houses as the power connection to each house will be carried out by house developers.

"This program awaits the construction of cheap houses by the public works agency," he said.

Meanwhile, the development of cheap houses is still underway with 50 units being constructed. A potential buyer is required to pay Rp 10,000 (US$1) a day to own a 36-square-meter house, or Rp 5,000 a day for a 21-square-meter house.

"Land and home certificates will belong to the buyer," Rizal Abdullah, public works agency head, said.
