BANDUNG: Qatar has sent 30 tons of logistical aid to the victims of the magnitude 7.3 earthquake that hit West Java last week.

The aid was provided by the Qatari government, said Lt. Col. Khames M. Al-Moraikhy, who led a Qatari entourage to Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.

He symbolically delivered the assistance to West Java administration secretary Lex Laksamana.

Al-Moraikh said the logistic aid consisted of canned vegetables, sardines, cooking oil, blankets, instant milk and medicine.

"All the aid will be distributed to affected people in Bandung, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis and Garut," national disaster management official Soetrisno said.

He added that Qatar would also lend two rescue cars.

On Wednesday the West Java administration received Rp 100 million in cash assistance for the victims from people in South Halmahera, North Maluku. - JP
