Policemen from Medan have found that 25 residents died, while 18 others are missing after a huge flood as high as four meters hit seven villages in Muara district, Mandailing Natal of North Sumatera.

Madina Resort Police Chief Engkos Kosasih said on Tuesday that around 600 people were evacuating while waiting for water to recede.

“The water has yet to recede as of Tuesady afternoon. We have sent logistics aid to all victims but some of the aid will arrive by tomorrow as we have to pass the river,” Engkos said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

He added that officers would need 13 hours to reach the worst-hit areas so they could distribute the aid. (ewd)
