Dam burst victims to get holiday bonuses

The South Tangerang administration has allocated Rp 307 million (US$31,000) to provide Idul Fitri holiday bonuses to over 600 relocated survivors of the March flood near Situ Gintung dam in Ciputat district.

Acting Mayor M Shaleh will distribute the bonuses to the people, who have been resettled in Kertamukti I and II refugee camps, on Wednesday, with each family receiving Rp 500,000.

Relief supervisor Haerpul said Tuesday the bonuses would help the families, as both the donors and mayoralty government had stopped providing them with staple food in the last month.

“Hopefully, the holiday bonuses will allow them to celebrate Idul Fitri,” Haerpul told Antara state news agency.

The Situ Gintung dam wall collapsed and a million cubic meters of water flooded the area, killing 100 people and destroying more than 300 houses in the area in March.
