AKARTA: Former Bank Indonesia governor Burhanuddin Abdullah will serve his three-year sentence handed down by Supreme Court in Cipinang penitentiary, East Jakarta.
"We have executed the verdict today," the director for prosecution at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Ferry Wibisono, said in Jakarta on Monday.
During trial, Burhan was detained at the National Police's Criminal Detective Body (Bareskrim) detention center.
Burhanuddin was found guilty by the Corruption Court last year for knowingly approving the distribution of Rp 100 billion (US$10 million) in central bank funds from the Indonesian Banking Development Foundation (YPPI).
The money was used to pay for the legal expenses of five former BI high-ranking officials implicated in the BI liquidity support (BLBI) and to bribe lawmakers at the House of Representatives to smooth the amendment of the BI law and speed up the settlement of the BLBI.
