KPK holds special meeting on disgraced deputies

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is holding a special meeting on Wednesday morning in relation to the police's naming of two KPK deputies as suspects in a case of alleged power abuse.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the meeting began at 9 a.m. However, he refused to give further details on the meeting.

Johan also refused to comment on rumors that the remaining two KPK deputies will resign.

“I don't know about that [rumor]. But corruption eradication must go on,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.

KPK deputies Chandra M Hamzah and Bibit Samad Riyanto were named suspects after 14-hour questioning sessions on Tuesday. The police charged them with power abuse in the the alleged abuse of power in the travel ban imposed on two individuals, Anggoro Widjojo and Joko Tjandra.

The investigation into KPK leaders followed a testimony of suspended KPK chief Antasari Azhar, who will stand trial for murder charges.
