Police to question KPK deputies again today

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies Chandra M Hamzah and Bibit Samad Riyanto, who had been name suspects in alleged power abuse, are scheduled for further questioning at the National Police headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sr. Comr. Yovianes Mahar, the police's director for Corruption Crime and White Collar Crime, said that investigators from his directorate would question the KPK deputies.

Chandra and Bibit were named as suspects after 14-hour questioning sessions on Tuesday. The police charged them with power abuse in the the alleged abuse of power in the travel ban imposed on two individuals, Anggoro Widjojo and Joko Tjandra.

The police have yet to arrest the KPK deputies. “It really depends on them. If they are cooperative then arrest is not necessary,” said Yovianes, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The police are scheduled to resume the questioning at 10:00 a.m.

The investigation into KPK leaders followed a testimony of suspended KPK chief Antasari Azhar, who will stand trial for murder charges.
