After being in uncertainty during the past few days, Indonesian Muslims will finakky end the Ramadan fasting month and celebrate Idul Fitri festivities on Sunday, the government has annouced.
The Religious Affairs Ministry during a meeting with mainstream Islamic groups, including Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) — the largest Muslim organizations in Indonesia, determined Saturday that the end of Ramadan be on Sunday.
Religious Affairs Minister said during the meeting that both astronomical calculations ( hisab) and moon sightings observation (rukyah) has confirmed the date .
Muhammadiyah, the country’s second largest Muslim organization, has set Sunday (Sept. 20) as this year’s Idul Fitri date based on its own hisab.
