Nine injured as Bali quake stirs panic

A man jumped out of the second floor of his house in panic for safety as a 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the tourist island of Bali on Saturday.
Iwan Lamilai is undergoing a surgery to heal his broken leg at Manuaba Hospital in Denpasar. Eight other people, identified as Suryanto, Ketut Yantini, Adi Dwi Atmika, Tedi Murdita, IB Askara, Kristinayanti, Putu Robianta and Suparmi, were admitted to Sanglah Hospital to due to injuries they suffered as they fled their houses to seek safety.
“They were injured as they scrambled for exit,” Ken Wirasandhi, head of the medical service unit at Sanglah Hospital, said. He added the hospital would not charge the patients.
Wirasandhi said five of the people were discharged from the hospital after medical treatment, including Suparmi, who is expecting a baby. 
The quake caused minor damages to the hospital, but Wirasandhi said the hospital’s operation was unaffected.
 
Endro Tjahyono, spokesman for the local Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, said the quake was felt in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Buleleng. The strongest tremor was felt in the southern part of the island, including the prominent tourist resorts of Kuta and Nusa Dua.
