Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo has reiterated the administration's warning that it will take stern action against job seekers coming to the city during the post-Idul Fitri holiday influx.

“The Civil Registration Agency will take proactive action,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com, referring to identity checks the agency will carry out at the city's main entry points.

Fauzi said those found without proper identification documents would be sent back to their hometown.

The governor said his administration has coordinated with other administrations on the islands of Java and Bali and in Lampung province.

Jakarta is a magnet for people from less developed regions, with about 70 percent of the country's money circulating here.

The migrants usually end up in low-paid jobs in the informal sector. However, many fail to find any work at all and end up roaming the city's streets.
