Haze returns to Palembang

A- A A+

People in the South Sumatra capital of Palembang woke up to thick haze on Wednesday after three days of smog-free sky, Antara state news agency reported.

Adenan, a local resident, said the haze had caused difficulty in breathing and eye irritation as it not only polluted the air, but also blew into houses.

“I think there will be many people complaining of respiratory infection in the near future,” he said.

He added heavy rain three days ago had put out the smoldering fires, allowing people to celebrate Idul Fitri.

Supandi, a passenger boat owner, said the haze had not reduced visibility in Musi River, but many fellow boat operators had opted to take a break for fear of eye irritation.
