The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) has presented its audit on the burgeoning bailout of Bank Century to the House of Representatives, lawmakers said Monday.
The audit is expected to determine where the Rp 6.76 trillion (US$670 million) of bailout has flowed, lawmaker Natsir Mansyur said. "We are glad BPK can present the audit before we end our term (on Sept. 30)."
Lawmaker A. Hafiz Zawawi said he expected new members of the House of Representatives to follow up on BPK's audit to determine whether the bailout was used correctly as it involved taxpayers' money.
"I guess there is no time left for us to discuss the issue," he said, as the existing House members are due to end their term in two days.
The bailout of Century rose to public view after the House summoned the government for not being transparent in disclosing the amount of the bailout. The government initially predicted the bailout to reach Rp 632 billion only.
