PLN schedules power cuts in Jakarta areas

The local office of state power company PT PLN for Jakarta and Tangerang have scheduled electricity blackouts in the areas after a power substation was damaged.

Widid Budi Nugroho, the office's distribution manager said that the company has prepared generators for vital facilities, including hospitals, health centers and police offices.

“We have also prepared gensets for traffic lights,” he said as quoted by Antara news agency.

According to the company's website, www.plnjaya.co.id, four-hour black outs are scheduled each day from Wednesday until next Tuesday. The black outs will last from 8 a.m to 12 p.m., and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m..

On Tuesday an electricity substation in Cililitan, East Java, caught fire and burned out causing black outs across South and East Jakarta.

The affected areas in Tuesday's blackouts included Gambir, Kuningan, Mampang, Pulomas, Cawang, Cililitan, several areas in West Jakarta and Tangerang, Teluk Naga, and Cileduk.

The company is still investigating the cause of the incident.
