Disaster officials said all nine fatalities occurred Tuesday evening as the storm toppled dozens of rickety houses and left at least 29 people injured in Kampong Thom province.
Kampong Thom is about 80 miles (130 kilometers) north of the capital, Phnom Penh.
Ly Thuch, deputy chief of the National Committee for Disaster Management, said Wednesday the storm made landfall about 2 p.m. Tuesday local time, packing winds of up to 90 miles (145 kilometers) per hour.
