Several land road accesses to the quake-devastated town of Padang, West Sumatra, remained cut off, while the town’s airport was reopened on Thursday morning.

Road access to Padang from Pekanbaru via Bukittinggi was cut off by landslide at the famous Lembah Anai joint, where travelers usually take a rest near a small waterfall by the road.

Landslide also cut off road access to Padang from Bengkulu via Bungus at the western coast of Sumatra.

Road access to West Sumatra via Padang Pariaman and Ujung Gading Pasaman was also cut off by rubbles of building and landslides.

The main road access remains open to Padang is the one from Riau or Jambi via Solok.

Meanwhile, the Padang new airport which was closed soon after the 7.6 earthquake rocked West Sumatra on Thursday afternoon was reopened on Thursday. Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air and Sriwijaya resume their flights to Padang.
