The Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) project ran normally despite a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that jolted West Papua on Sunday morning, operator BP Plc said.
“The earthquake in Manokwari was not felt at the LNG project location. The operation is running normally,” said BP Indonesia country head Nico Kanter via text message.
The quake hit the West Papua province at 10.36 a.m.
The Geophysics, Climatology, and Meteorology Agency (BMKG) said on its website, that the epicenter of the quake was located 123 kilometers northwest of Manokwari, West Papua, at a depth of 56 kilometers.
Located in the Bintuni Bay area in remote Papua, the Tangguh project is exploiting a total of 14.4 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves.
