DENPASAR: The city administration had recently completed an assessment and evaluation program targeting the security systems of hotels in the area without star ratings.
"The program was carried out throughout August and September and," city administration spokesperson Erwin Suryadharma said.
The program was first introduced by the then Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Made Mangku Pastika after the terrorist bombing in 2002, which killed 202 people.
Mangku Pastika hoped the program would encourage all hotels in the island to establish a security system in accordance with existing international standards.
Erwin said the assessment and evaluation program targeted 60 hotels without star ratings and budget accommodation across the city.
"Unfortunately, only 16 hotels are considered as having an adequate security system," he said.
There are a total of 179 hotels without star ratings in Denpasar. As of early October, as many as 91 hotels were said to have a good security system. - JP
